INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS AND FUNDING NEEDED AS COVID-19 THREATENS TO CAUSE A RESURGENCE OF HIV, TB AND MALARIA
ABSTRACT COVID-19 threatens to reverse gains made in the fight against the three diseases. Measures put in place to curb its spread have prevented many from accessing testing and treatment services for the three diseases. Modeling studies have shown that this is likely to lead to the loss of additional lives from HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. An article in a recent issue of the Nature Research Journal proposes four ways of minimizing these potential effects, including raising more funds for the three diseases and raising public awareness of the rising threat of COVID-19.
