SIX AFRICAN COUNTRIES CLASSIFIED AS CHALLENGING OPERATING ENVIRONMENTS CRAFT TAILORED FUNDING REQUESTS TO THE GLOBAL FUND
ABSTRACT
Aidspan has obtained draft HIV and TB funding requests from six African countries classified by the Global Fund as challenging operating environments (Eritrea, Liberia, Guinea, Central African Republic, South Sudan and Somalia). Civil wars, famines and post-Ebola realities require flexible approaches in these countries. A number of innovative and adaptive interventions are prioritized to respond to the diseases in such difficult circumstances.
Global Fund awards $253.8 million in renewal funding
ABSTRACT
Incremental funding of up to $253.8 million was approved for the renewal of 16 grants for 13 applicants. The largest awards were for two malaria grants in Kenya, a TB grant in Somalia and a health systems strengthening grant in Viet Nam.
First Shipment of Drugs to Treat MDR-TB in Somalia Expected to Arrive Soon, PR Says
ABSTRACT
Somalia has a high burden of multi-drug-resistant TB, with an overall rate of 10% and a rate of 40% amongst the re-treatment cases. World Vision International Somalia, principal recipient for the Global Fund’s TB grants, says that the first medicines to treat MDR-TB are on their way.
