ABSTRACT The report of the Office of the Inspector General on its audit of grants to Viet Nam was very complimentary of the country’s progress in program impact, financial management internal controls, governance and assurance mechanisms. The OIG praised Viet Nam’s decision to integrate HIV and TB treatment into the national health insurance scheme, but said that the integration presented a number of challenges and risks.

ABSTRACT Incremental funding of up to $253.8 million was approved for the renewal of 16 grants for 13 applicants. The largest awards were for two malaria grants in Kenya, a TB grant in Somalia and a health systems strengthening grant in Viet Nam.

ABSTRACT The Global Fund will cease funding HIV treatment services in compulsory drug treatment centres in Viet Nam. Human rights advocates have criticised the Global Fund for giving money to centres where abuses of human rights have been documented.
