OIG audit praises Kenya’s procurement and supply chain processes, identifies implementation challenges
ABSTRACT
An audit by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) shows that Kenya has made significant progress against HIV, TB and malaria. This is partly due to the country’s ability to successfully procure and distribute Global Fund-supported health products. The OIG, however, found issues in the quality of services, measurement of grant performance and grant implementation in the context of devolution of health services from the central government to 47 county governments following constitutional changes in 2010.
Global Fund civil society implementers in English- and Portuguese-speaking African countries create forum to share experience
ABSTRACT
The Eastern Africa National Networks of AIDS Service Organizations (EANNASO) convened a meeting of Global Fund civil society implementers from Anglophone and Lusophone Africa. Participants shared experience of the challenges of grant implementation, grant absorption, and tested solutions. At the end of the two-day meeting, participants welcomed the setup of a Community of Practice to continue learning from each other. Aidspan’s policy team reports.

Eleven countries in West and Central Africa met with representatives of the Global Fund Secretariat and technical partners in Dakar on 28-30 June 2016 to respond to problems the countries are experiencing in absorbing funding and implementing grants. If appropriate actions are not undertaken, it is estimated that $768 million will remain unspent at 31 December 2017.
