AIDSPAN AND PARTNERS ENHANCE THE CAPACITY OF THREE SUPREME AUDIT INSTITUTIONS TO AUDIT GLOBAL FUND GRANTS
ABSTRACT
In June 2021, Aidspan and partners organized virtual workshops to improve the capacity of the Supreme Audit Institutions of Ethiopia, Lesotho, and Namibia to audit Global Fund grants. This is the second phase of the project to strengthen the capacity of these institutions in Global Fund grant auditing. The three workshops provided training on how to conduct both financial and programmatic audits.
THE OUTGOING INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE GLOBAL FUND SPEAKS CANDIDLY ABOUT HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES
ABSTRACT
The outgoing Inspector General reflected on his experiences and results at the organization. He highlighted the role of the OIG in helping to improve the quality of risk management processes, controls, and governance in the Global Fund. He also spoke about his biggest challenges, including the lack of “a strong culture of learning and accountability” in the organization.
SUPREME AUDIT INSTITUTIONS OF GHANA, KENYA, AND RWANDA THAT AUDIT GLOBAL FUND GRANTS VARY IN THEIR EXTERNAL AUDIT PERFORMANCE
ABSTRACT
The Global Fund requires annual audits of its grants, with countries’ own ‘supreme audit institutions’ (SAIs) as the preferred auditors of grants managed by state Principal Recipients. The supreme audit institutions of Ghana, Kenya, and Rwanda are among the few SAIs that already conduct annual audits of Global Fund grants in sub-Saharan Africa. These three SAIs, however, vary in their external audit performance.
Supreme Audit Institutions in Africa would welcome an opportunity to start or expand their involvement in auditing Global Fund grants
ABSTRACT
At a roundtable on 24–26 April organized by Aidspan, supreme audit institutions in eight African countries expressed an interest in becoming involved in auditing Global Fund grant ––or, for SAIs that are already auditing Global Fund grants, in expanding their involvement. The roundtable, held in Kigali, Rwanda, was supported by GIZ Back UP Health.
