Global Fund Resource Mobilization Update
Abstract:
The Global Fund’s Audit and Finance Committee met on 15 March 2023 to review the current position of resource mobilisation including: the status of the Sixth and Seventh Replenishments; lessons learned from the Seventh Replenishment; resource mobilization priorities for 2023; advocacy and communication activities; and anticipated risks. The meeting noted the need to continue to pursue all opportunities to identify and mobilize additional funding from both public and private sources. This will require the constant adaptation and implementation of a compelling advocacy and communication strategy that shows both the immediate life-saving outcomes of Global Fund financing as well as the effective support it provides to sustainable systems for health.
Civil Society engagement in the Sixth Replenishment campaign: A unique example in the world of global health
ABSTRACT
Civil society organizations have played a major role in the campaign for the Sixth Replenishment. They have shown once again how involved they are in the life of the Global Fund. In francophone Africa, through GFAN and CS4ME, more than twenty organizations from 15 countries have conducted awareness-raising and advocacy activities at the embassies of the main public donors in the runup to the replenishment, and publicly asked their countries to participate in the resource mobilization effort. The announcements made at the Pledging Conference have rewarded these efforts: African countries have mobilized twice the amount of money compared to three years ago, and their strong presence in Lyon demonstrates their commitment to fight and eliminate pandemics.
Advocates' network report underscores critical need for Global Fund to ‘get back on track’ to end epidemics
ABSTRACT
A new report from the Global Fund Advocates Network released at AIDS 2018 makes the case that the global responses to HIV, TB, and malaria are currently ‘off track,’ and that increased funding is needed to ‘get back on track’ and meet the various global disease targets for 2025 and 2030. The report outlines some key financial and political imperatives for addressing the epidemics adequately.

ACTIVISTS STUNNED BY GLOBAL FUND DECISION TO END FUNDING FOR REGIONAL HIV PROGRAMMING IN AFRICA
ABSTRACT
The Global Fund has recently announced that its priorities for multi-country investments over the 2017-2019 funding cycle do not include HIV programs in Africa. This decision will affect eight current grants worth nearly $60 million, many of which have had less than two years of implementation. Activists have reacted to this decision, calling it “frustrating” and “irresponsible.” Many of the current multi-country investments have longer-term legal and policy change objectives, requiring sustained advocacy investments if they are to have lasting impact.
NEW ARV DATABASE BEING PILOTED IN THE EECA REGION
ABSTRACT
A new database on antiretrovirals in use in 15 countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia will be used by civil society organizations doing treatment advocacy. It will also help countries transitioning away from Global Fund support.
