Global Fund’s new HIV and TB multicountry grants in Eastern Europe and Central Asia begin implementation
ABSTRACT
Two multicountry Global Fund grants in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, for TB and HIV, were approved in December 2018 by the Global Fund Board, for a total of $18 million. Implementation began on 1 January 2019, but there is lingering concern among applicants regarding the effectiveness of the competitive approach prescribed by the Global Fund for the application process. A member of one of the applicant organizations, the Eurasian Harm Reduction Association, reports on some applicants' concerns.
Global Fund multi-country grant prolongs the TB-in-the-mining-sector program in Southern Africa
ABSTRACT
The Wits Health Consortium will continue in its role as principal recipient for the Southern African Regional TB in the Mining Sector Program, thanks to the renewal of a multi-country TB grant. TB prevalence in mining areas is 3–7 times that of the general population.
WESTERN PACIFIC CONTINUING TO TACKLE HIV WITH SUBMISSION OF MULTI-COUNTRY CONCEPT NOTE
ABSTRACT
Eleven Pacific Island countries have endorsed a multi-country concept note to respond to the varying HIV epidemics among their respective populations, ahead of submission expected on 30 January. The concept note -- among the only multi-country notes to be developed under the new funding model -- was drawn from extensive consultations to set priorities and identify areas of commonality.
