ABSTRACT Côte d’Ivoire is known throughout West Africa as the most tolerant country, where gay, lesbian and transgender people from all backgrounds do not have to fear the same kind of systematic violence or opprobrium that plagues them elsewhere in the region. Yet for all this openness, the country is hardly an oasis: sex workers and men who have sex with men continue to encounter often violent stigmatization, the manifestation of a culture of ignorance and suspicion, particularly within the security and defense forces.
ABSTRACT Despite the fact that the Technical Review Panel noted the lack of interventions targeting men who have sex with men, and transgendered persons, when it reviewed Ethiopia’s HIV concept note from the 2014–2016 allocations, the TB/HIV funding request for 2017-2019 made no mention of these populations. The TRP and the Ethiopian country coordinating mechanism went back and forth on this issue during the review of the funding request and during grant-making. This decision contrasted sharply with recent moves by The Global Fund and the U.S. President’s Plan for AIDS Relief to scale up coverage of key populations.
ABSTRACT The Eurasian Coalition on Male Health will submit a concept note targeting MSM and transgender communities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The concept note will have a strong focus on advocacy and human rights.
ABSTRACT Hoping to seize on momentum begun in Bangladesh in November 2013 with the decision to recognize a third gender on official documents, the Global Fund-supported Multi-Country South Asia HIV Program is working with national human rights institutions alongside civil society to improve the promotion and protection of human rights for sexual minorities.

ABSTRACT Only a tiny fraction of the money the Global Fund spends on HIV programming in Southern Africa targets gay men, other men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals, according to a new study.
