A committee of the Global Fund's board has chosen a shortlist of five people for consideration as the Fund's new Executive Director, to succeed Richard Feachem. They are a former government minister from Norway, the French HIV/AIDS ambassador, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, a senior US television executive, and a senior UNAIDS official from Mali.

This article is the first of a series on the latest version of the Global Fund Operational Policy Manual. The manual comprises 18 Operational Policy Notes and 7 Operational Procedures relating to grant life cycle processes. It still makes for difficult reading and requires a lot more attention to detail. From the perspective of an outsider or even a new Global Fund staff member, it looks to be very user unfriendly and could do with professional reworking.

There is so much happening in 2022 that the Global Fund Board has asked for more meetings this year to address the topics requiring more attention. It also wants to discuss how best to “communicate transparent, routine performance and results data”. But in this regard the Global Fund’s openness has worsened, not improved, over the years. Transparency has gone backwards. Is the pot calling the kettle black?
